What does Oppo think of Luxury SUVs? As enthusiasts, we are supposed to despise these gentle giants, but Luxury SUVs are one of my favorite class of vehicles.

I love big, luxury SUVs. The Range Rover brothers and the XC90 are some of the best design you can get on a new car, both on the inside and on the outside, and I really, really like the X5.

People complain that cars are too boring now, someone creates a 450HP SUV, people complain SUVs are not fun to drive, someone creates the X5M and G63 and ML63, people complain SUVs shouldn’t be sporty, someone creates Off-roady thing, “the ride is too fucking harsh” people Heqvwbjobjoq[abovinpqvwabjosv

The case for Luxury SUV’s used exclusively as a replacement for a sensible car:
Armored cars
um...cheap used V8 power?
That’s about all I can think of. I personally think that using a Luxury SUV as a replacement for a car and only as a replacement for a car is stupid. That being said I see their benefit, they can often town, they are huge inside for people and things and many of them can actually hold their own in the place they were born from (the dirt) and as long as you need to tow and have a brood to carry and can afford it, why not luxury?
I drive a hopelessly thirsty luxury SUV to work...

They can be pretty awesome. Actually, since they’re one of the only ways you can get a really big vehicle that’s also a luxury vehicle anymore, I endorse them wholeheartedly.

I dislike MLs, GLs, XC90s, and X5s after the first generation because I’ve tangled with too many of them. But I like driving old Range Rovers because they just feel classy, and Land Cruisers are, well, Land Cruisers. Respect, there.

Yes, the Range Rover brothers are one some of my favorite SUVs on the market. The XC90 is pretty good, but I still think I prefer the new Q7 to it. The XC90 is so played out already.

Yes, they are some of the most interesting cars on the market, yet people don't want to accept them because they're a little higher off the ground.

They’re cool, but I hate them because they displaced wagons in their US lineups. Now if they were offered *in addition* to the wagons, I’d be totally cool with them.
Yeah they’re big and have lots of space and features, and become quite affordable secondhand bargains that you don’t have to be Tavarish to appreciate, but the driving dynamics aren’t the greatest and the fuel economy sux.

I think the side profile of the Q7 is fantastic, perfectly proportioned, but that HUGE grill spoil the front. Shame, from looks only it has the third best interior from this category, only behind the RR brothers

I like luxury SUVs and think they have there place but ridiculously large SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade, Toyota Sequoia, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, etc... They are five and seven seaters that are much larger than the likes of the Land Rover Range Rover, Audi Q(insert number here), VW Tiguan, etc... yet do nothing more.

I think very highly of them. My SVR is my third Range in 6 years. Personally haven't had any issues.
For my money, the only two on that list for me is Range Rover if you’re going import, escalade if you want domestic. My fiancé will probably end up in a 2015/16 Escalade by the end of the year. Especially love the open pore wood you can get, the other glossy options look no better than the wood trim on the navigator my family had in the late 90s.

pointless. they’re mostly for the rich who want to show off, but granted most are actually good off-road, some are even great on the track (cayenne) a big problem with luxury SUVs is that many people don't use them to their full potential, aka Range Rover and g wagen. but, they are pretty awesome, and even though my brain thinks they’re pointless my heart thinks they’re awesome.

Personally I think they are stupid.
But many people like them enough to spend their money on them.
So as long as that’s the case, automakers will keep building them.
But it’s unlikely I’ll ever buy one... even used.
I don’t have a problem if someone else wants one.
The only things that annoy me is when luxury SUV owners try to tell me that I should get one too... or how ‘something should be done’ about the cost of gasoline (back when oil/gasoline prices were hitting new highs)... or how they’re always broke... or they “need” a vehicle like that to be “safe”... all things I consider to be idiotic bullshit that I’m not interested in hearing about.

In my worthless opinion, I think they are a waste. Too much depreciation and lack of purpose to me. Also, my wife would have divorce papers drawn up if I brought home a Cayenne Turbo S over a GT3. She’d much rather us have toys like a Longnose 911 or a BB Chevelle anyways.
As always, people are free to buy and spend their money on whatever they want. And we’ll do the same, which generally means to me buying inexpensive cars that we daily drive into the ground while limiting our exposure to depreciating assests... YMMV

I love them.
How do you tow your race car to the track?
How do you haul 4 kids and still get to 60 from a stop in under six (or five) seconds?
We can be a pretty myopic bunch sometimes. I hate wagons and I don’t care who knows it. I respect that they’re useful, sleepers, etc, but for the most part I dislike them, and even when I do like one (e34 touring?) I still generally prefer the sedan or coupe better.
Personal taste is like that - personal. It’s a good thing we’re not all the same.
You can also consider the site’s demographics, which skew younger/hipsterish compared to the boomer oriented established rags. (Which translates to poorer / liberal just out of college folks who look down their noses at luxury, usually out of jealousy veiled in a “capitalist pig” mask).
My advice is drive what makes YOU happy - life is too short to drive crappy cars you don’t like.
If this is real thing...
You can do worse than this...

I don’t dislike them because they are bad for the person driving them. I dislike them because they make driving worse for everyone. They are too big to see around (or through) which is why everyone is going for “cross overs”. They are too big for regular parking spaces which means lots need bigger spaces which means less spaces. They are heavy which makes them more dangerous to others in a crash. High bumper heights also make them more dangerous in a crash which has led to the modern trend of crazy high belt lines which has ruined visibility in smaller cars. I could go on.
They are selfish vehicles.

If I could justify a brand-new XC90 or RR Sport, I’d absolutely have one.
Given that I only drive, all alone, less than 10 miles a day, there’s no justification. If it weren’t all hills between my house and work, I’d ride a bike instead for most of the year.

I like luxury SUVs.
The X5 drives better than most cars, the Land Cruiser is still a serious off roaders and the new XC90 is more luxurious than most full-size luxury cars. The Range Rover can even do all three of those things.
When done right luxury SUVs are great, and I can see why some people would get them over a normal car. There are some flaws of course, but I can look past most of them.
